Problem
Before you begin this problem, you will need to find a partner to help you complete the first part of this activity. Your partner should be from a culture different from your own. Your partner can be a classmate, friend, coworker, neighbor, etc.
• Step I: Complete the Checklist: A variety of jobs are listed in the checklist provided in the supplemental materials section below. When you look at each job, do you think of a male or a female? If you think of a male, write "M", if you think of a female, write "F" in each parenthesis.
• Step II: Interview: Interview someone who has a different cultural background from yours. Ask that person to do the same task, and write down their responses.
• Step III: Compare and Reflect: Compare your responses with those of your partner's responses. Did you discover similarities and/or differences?
In a 2-3 page paper, please discuss the following: Did you find any patterns in your responses? Explain. Describe any similarities between your responses and your partner's responses. Describe any differences between your responses and your partner's responses. Describe the influence of culture, gender, roles and gender stereotypes and how these might have influenced each of your answers as well as your overall perspective on occupation.
