When studying about race and ethnicity, it is important to understand the difference between prejudice and discrimination. An easy way to remember.. prejudice is an attitude and discrimination is an action. Throughout history, there has been a strong influence of prejudice and discrimination. There are several incidents that are occurring currently that would also be influenced by these.

Prejudice and discrimination are often fueled by fear. Fear of the unknown. Fear of the differences. To lessen the fears, a person must increase their understanding of different races. In 1968, Jane Elliott taught a third grade class. She created an experiment for the children to participate in to increase their understanding of being "different". Although it is an older experiment, it very much still has relevance today.

View the video "A Class Divided" at https://www.pbs.org/wgbh/frontline/film/class-divided/. After watching the video, write a one page paper identifying the key points of the experiment and what was learned. In the chapter, there are examples of stereotypes in reference to prejudice and types of discrimination. Use examples from these two areas to explain your answers.
