Response Paper: Water
During the past 12 weeks we looked at and discussed various social issues that are present in societies across the world. We also discussed different sociological approaches like Functionalist, Marxist, Conflict, Feminist, and Rational Choice theories to describe those social issues i.e. inequalities and disparities, racism, social barriers and obstructions, poverty, gender differences, conformity and deviances etc. While some of these issues were discussed from the American perspective, we did learn that other societies across the globe too experience these issues. Matter of fact, in some parts of the world these issues are much more pressing.
The movie Water, although based in 1930s India, does depict a lot of those social issues, and sadly many of those social ills still exist in that part of the world. For this assignment I want you to take two theoretical approaches to discuss two such issues you saw in the movie.
