Read the following article by the Pulitzer Prize-winning author Jon Meacham. He's written a lot about our country and our history and his latest book The Soul of America: The Battle for our Better Angels is immensely popular and much of the language from it has made its way into our present culture, especially the first part of the title. The second part, of course, is from Lincoln's appeal to Americans NOT to go to Civil War. Then, write a two-page, double-spaced typed paper discussing what you think is most important and interesting in the article and then provide your own conclusions about what Meacham wrote.
