Problem

Robert Putnam, The Upswing: How American Came Together a Century Ago and How We Can Do It Again, chapters 1-4

Reading questions: Here are some things to look for and take note of as you read. You do not need to submit answers to these questions, however if you're having trouble figuring them out, ask your professor.

i. Consider what Putnam means by "what's past is prologue."
ii. Summarize the relationships between the summary charts at the end of each of the first four chapters.
iii. Begin to think about polarization and its implications in organizational environments. Are there similarities and differences? Can we assume the same U-curve? Why or why not?

We have read about civil society and mediating institutions last week, and this week we've read about families and parenting. With these readings in mind, given the following two options as poles on a range of numbers, where would you put your own views? Why or why not?

For each chapter, note one idea or concept or observation that you found thought provoking. In your post, you should

i. type the passage (cite the page number)
ii. briefly explain what you found interesting or challenging from the passage
iii. pose a discussion question that you would like the class to talk about or that you would be curious to hear your classmates' thoughts on.

Ideally, consider how these ideas impact organizational leaders.
