Problem:

A 17-year-old female has been referred to your office by her pediatrician for further evaluation. Parents state that patient started exhibiting odd symptoms about 2 months ago. She started to have fear that her parents were spying on her all the time and that individuals were trying to kidnap her. She has started to have conversations with individuals that are not present. She has reported that she will often hear voices talking to her. Upon examination it is hard for her to have a conversation, she will often put together words that do not have any meaning. During the interview she is pacing around the room and talking with herself, it is difficult to get her to sit down. No reports of substance use and drug screen were negative at pediatricians office. What would be the most accurate diagnosis based on this presentation? Bipolar I disorder Schizophrenia Schizophreniform Substance-Induced Psychosis
