Even if the results of one's actions are favorable, there are those that simply seem wrong. Just picture a murderous mob that is out for blood after a particularly heinous crime. That is to say, the crowd's mood would be improved if the criminal were arrested and sentenced to time in prison. Worse still, what if the cops are unable to apprehend the killer? They might instead frame a scapegoat with a false story. Everyone in the audience would be thrilled if they thought the killer had been apprehended, even if it wasn't the real one. Also, imagine that there are 10,000 individuals in the audience. It's more probable that their joy as a group will than the innocent man's suffering from being wrongfully incarcerated. After all, he's one in a thousand and they're ten thousand.
