Identify law that resulted in separation of racial groups

Assignment task:

1. Examine the two passages below and answer the questions that follow. Life in the townships during apartheid With the separation of racial groups, through the Group Areas Act of 1950, came the development of 'townships', which were poorly designed and crime ridden, and generally far from the economic hub of the city (Fiske & Ladd 2004). This meant that working parents often left home very early in the morning and came back late at night or had to live away from the home, because it was too far to travel and too expensive to commute. Life in rural areas during apartheid Ebrahim (2010) describes how, in the homelands and rural areas, life was also different for the average young, black child. Young, black mothers were forced to move to urban areas to find work and fathers were subjected to the migrant labour system of 1952, which barely paid minimum wage. The family that was left behind in the homestead had to survive off subsistence farming. Identify the law that resulted in the separation of racial groups in South Africa during apartheid.

2. Analyse the first passage in question 1 and identify the two challenges mentioned about life in the townships during apartheid.
