What was your first experience going to a dentist

Problem: Interview questions. What was your first experience going to a dentist in the United States like? • My first time going to the dentist was at HealthPoint in Federal Way. It was 10 years ago, two months after I entered the U.S. I was with an interpreter who helped me communicate. I just remember that I was very grateful to have the opportunity to get my teeth examined and cleaned, especially because I was always afraid of losing my teeth because it is accepted to be a norm of aging. Have language barriers ever made dental visits difficult or stressful? • It was definitely difficult. I remember that I had a cavity in my wisdom tooth, which caused my second molar to also develop a cavity close to the pulp. I remember the dentist and the interpreter discussing whether it would be better to pull out my second molar when my wisdom teeth were extracted because a root canal was expensive for an immigrant. • At that point, I felt like I had no voice because they were deciding what was best for me without asking whether I wanted a second opinion. In Middle Eastern culture, my interpreter felt more like a friend who wanted the best for me, and she strongly encouraged me to extract my second molar even though it was still easily saveable. • That molar was restored by a dentist at my dental assisting school two months later, and it ended up not needing a root canal.
