Formal paper examining America's military experience
Create on one (I) of the following three (3) topics, using William Allison, My Lai: An American Atrocity in the Vietnam War as your only source. Make sure you draw your information, examples, generalizations and conclusions only from this text; do not use any other outside sources or information.
Q1. What was combat like for American soldiers in the Vietnam War? Using Company C as an example, how did the American army patrol areas (what were they looking for), and what happened to them during this searching? How did they attack villages (what tools and equipment did they use) and what happened to them when they did (what did they do there)? DO NOTE that since the deliberate massacre of civilians was an aberration, do not include that information in this question (though do note what the soldiers did with civilians and what happened to civilians up to the point of the massacre beginning).
Q2. What lies were told (and by whom) during the Vietnam War and during the operation at My Lai, and during the investigation of My Lai. Why were these lies told?
Q3. What was wrong with the American Army in Vietnam (and especially use the Americal Division and Company C as examples), and how did these problems help lead to the massacre?
