What is your emergency?
Donald Trump invoked thirteen national emergencies in his four-year term (this excludes public health emergencies and disaster declarations), including a declaration related to COVID-19 on March 13th 2020. For the full list of all declarations of emergency since 1978, including Trump's declarations, visit.
Pick one of these emergencies you would like to learn more about and in a brief 350 words essay, answer these four questions:
i. What triggered the emergency declaration?
ii. What does the president plan to do with his emergency powers?
iii. Has any aspect of the declaration been challenged in court or controversial in other ways?
iv. Is the example you chose an over-reach of presidential authority, or a reasonable or conventional use of the executive power?
Be sure you read and quote from the actual text of the emergency declaration, rather than relying on secondary sources only. You can click through to that text from the Brennan Center link above. Also use media coverage of the declaration to offer some details - be sure to cite your news source.
Format your homework according to the following formatting requirements:
i) The answer should be typed, using Times New Roman font (size 12), double spaced, with one-inch margins on all sides.
ii) The response also includes a cover page containing the title of the homework, the student's name, the course title, and the date. The cover page is not included in the required page length.
iii) Also include a reference page. The Citations and references must follow APA format. The reference page is not included in the required page length.
