What therapy must be used with individual clients

Problem: Scientific research on psychological disorders involves studies of large groups of people in a search for what works best for most people. These days, many health insurance companies use these research findings to dictate what therapy must be used with individual clients. However, psychotherapy has often been described as both a science and an "art". The "art" part means that experienced therapists can be quite good at knowing what individual clients need, in spite of what the research might say. For the discussion question, talk about the advantages & disadvantages of the scientific approach to therapy and the "art" approach to therapy. Why should therapists follow conclusions of research in terms of how they treat their clients?  Why should therapists rely on their own experience, judgment, & insight?
