Problem:
This first integrative assignment will allow you to synthesize the course material we've covered so far, especially with reference to TC and CC. Please carefully review the Guidelines for Integrative Assignments, also available in the syllabus, before beginning this assignment. Remember in particular that your job in this essay or presentation is to describe
- what the subjective experience of each state is like (its characteristics);
- how each state develops (the means of transformation from the previous state);
- why each state is valuable in daily life (its practical impacts and effects);
- any scientific evidence that can help support the existence of each state (i.e., an appropriate selection of research findings); and
- personal and/or historical experiences of each of these states.
Be sure to include a short description of waking, dreaming, and sleeping states by way of introduction, especially since your audience will be most familiar with these first three states of consciousness. Also include a few key points about the Western models of human development we've explored in class. You won't need to include information about GC and UC in this essay, since these states will be the subject of the second integrative assignment in Week 4. Need Assignment Help?
Feel free to craft your essay or presentation as if you were actually giving the talk to your University of Iowa audience. In other words, you can use more informal language where appropriate (e.g., "Hello, everyone. I'm ____________ from Maharishi International University..."), rather than the more formal language of a research paper submitted to a journal.
All the information you might need for this assignment is contained in the preceding course materials. You should allow about 300-450 words each to cover TC and CC, or about 600-900 words total as a ballpark figure. This integrative assignment will set the stage for our upcoming exploration of GC, UC, and Brahman Consciousness in the remainder of the course.
(Note: You won't need to comment on your classmates' submissions this time, since this assignment is longer than the usual forums.)
