What social issues that really hit home for me

Problem:

There are two social issues that really hit home for me, weight-based stigma in mental health recognition and toxic workplace environments. These aren't just things I read about in textbooks; they're real struggles I've faced and seen up close, both in my personal life and at work. Let's talk about the first one, weight stereotypes when it comes to recognizing eating disorders. A study by Kressel and colleagues (2025) made a pretty eye-opening point, people with binge eating disorder (BED) are more often acknowledged as having a problem if they're described as overweight. But here's the kicker, BED can affect anyone, regardless of their size. I've witnessed firsthand how these weight assumptions can skew care. It's frustrating to see individuals in larger bodies being pathologized, while those who are smaller often get ignored. What I think could really help is training for educators, clinicians, and community leaders that focuses on recognizing symptoms rather than relying on weight alone. We need public health campaigns that challenge the myth that eating disorders only impact thin people and push for inclusive, trauma-informed care for everyone, no matter their size. Now, onto the second issue, how toxic workplaces can seriously affect employee engagement and well-being. Research by Rasool and his team (2021) highlights that harassment, bullying, and being ostracized can really take a toll, especially i need a positive response with APA citations.
