Assignment task: ROLE PLAY community services
During this role play you will interact with a client who has poor English skills. The client will arrive on the scene, with her daughter, seeking assistance to understand what services the NDIS can provide to help her in her home. There will be communication issues that you will need to deal with to help provide service to the client. You will need to demonstrate cultural competence throughout your interaction with the customer by: Demonstrating that diversity is valued by you and the organisation Establish rapport with the customer in a way that demonstrates appreciation of diversity Demonstrating culturally safe work practice by responding sensitively and respectfully to difference Using verbal and non-verbal skills when communicating with the customer Implementing strategies to deal with language barriers Identifying and resolving any misunderstandings or differences Seeking assistance from others to help accommodate communication needs
