Discussion: Temporal/Contextual Case Conceptualization Mode

Conceptualization skills provide the counselor with a rationale and a framework for his or her work with clients, and with today's greater focus on evidence-based practices, effective case conceptualization has become essential.

Case conceptualization is a tool for observing, understanding, and conceptually integrating client behaviors, thoughts, feelings, physiology, and external as well as internal influences. Zubernis and Snyder (2016) recognized:

Before a treatment plan can be developed and in order to guide the counseling process, the counselor must come to a deeper understanding of the client by gathering information and weaving all that they know about a client's life and history together. (p. 41)

For this discussion, briefly summarize the related processes of evaluation, organization, and orientation described in Chapter 3 of your Case Conceptualization and Effective Interventions text, and their importance in the case conceptualization process.

• What was your understanding of case conceptualization prior to reading about the T/C model?

• What may you choose to consider in your approach to case conceptualization following reading about the T/C model?

The response should include a reference list. Double-space, using Times New Roman 12 pnt font, one-inch margins, and APA style of writing and citations.
