What is the treatment for those that were exposed to disease

Problem

Case Study

January 13th, 2008: After a family trip to Switzerland, a 7-year-old boy returned home to San Diego where he developed a sore throat, cough, and conjunctivitis 8 days later (Jan 21st). He went to school on Jan 24th a day later on Jan 25th a general rash appeared on his body. Later on, on Jan 26th, when his condition worsened, he was taken to a children's hospital and later that day to the hospital's emergency room when he spiked a high fever of 104 degrees. In the course of his disease, he managed to infect his brother (3 yrs old), sister (9 yrs old), two playmates from school (~7 yrs old), a boy at the pediatrician's office (2 yrs old), and three infants (<10 months old) at the pediatrician's office. The sister infected two of her classmates (~9 yrs old), and one of the playmates infected his younger brother (? > 10 months).

Everyone who developed the disease was unvaccinated.

Task

A. The patient was prescribed antibiotics initially, but this did nothing to the disease, because of the unvaccinated rate of infection, what is the likely culprit (disease)?

B. How serious is the disease, and what can be side effects of the disease?

C. How contagious is the disease?

D. What is the treatment/procedure for those that were exposed to the disease?

E. (Guess) Why were the infected unvaccinated?

F. The patient had a sore throat, than later a rash (tough but), why did the pediatrician prescribe antibiotics?
