Assignment Task: At an acute psychiatric hospital, a qualified recreational therapist prepares for a relaxation session where she plans to use a guided imagery intervention. The majority of the patients/clients who will attend this session are in the hospital for depression, anxiety, and substance abuse. A few patients/clients who have acute psychoses will be attending the group, for whom guided imagery is contraindicated, as their hallucinations prevent them from participating without causing them great distress. The recreational therapy program protocol for the session also indicates that hallucinations are contraindicated; however, these particular patients/clients wish to attend.
