Problem: Spermatogenesis

A. On a model or diagram of spermatogenesis, be able to identify: spermatogonium, primary spermatocytes, secondary spermatocytes, spermatids, and spermatozoa. Know which are the products of meiosis I and meiosis II. Also, be able to label each as haploid or diploid.

B. What is spermiogenesis and where does it occur?

C. On a slide of the testes on high magnification, be able to label the following: seminiferous tubules, interstitial (Leydig) cells, spermatogonia, spermatozoa, spermatocytes, and spermatids leading into the lumen.

D. On a slide or diagram of mature sperm, be able to label the head, midpiece and tail. Know what is within the head (nucleus and acrosome), within the midpiece (mitochondria and centrioles), and that the tail is a flagella.

E. What are the roles of FSH and LH in spermatogenesis?
