Thank you for your response. You discussed some ethical issues that might need to be addressed when considering a research study.
Class,
Let's begin by taking a step back and consider - What is research ethics? It involves the responsibility of researchers to be honest and respectful to all individuals who are affected by their research studies or their reports of the studies' results. Today researchers in psychology are guided by the American Psychological Association's ethical principles for research. (Haslam, et al, 2024) (McBride, 2020) (Gravetter & Forzano, 2023) For each research study, ethics are intended to guide choices, or determine:
- What measurement techniques may be used
- How to select participants
- Which research strategies to use
- Which research design to use
- How to carry out the study
- How to analyze the data
- How to report the results (Gravetter & Forzano, 2023)
For many, this may seem obvious. As human beings and professionals in psychology, we are concerned about the welfare of others. After all, that is why we are conducting research - How do we think? What motivates us? What influences behaviors? How do people make decisions? etc. So why do we need specific guidelines for ethics? Need Assignment Help?
