While the military is fundamentally an instrument for waging war, it also fills a number of other roles. The chapters assigned in the textbook this week provide a basic introduction to many of these roles. In this discussion post, you will identify and describe one role that the military plays across three contexts: in the international community, domestically (that is, within the borders of the United States), and politically (that is, as a part of the United States government).
To complete this assignment, then, follow these steps:
1. In one paragraph, identify and describe a role that the United States military plays in the international community. In other words, when we look around the globe, what is one thing that the United States military does?
2. In one paragraph, identify and describe a role that the United States military plays domestically. In other words, when we look within the borders of the United States, what is one thing that the United States military does?
3. In one paragraph, identify and describe a role that the United States military plays within our government. In other words, when we look at the military as a part of the national government, what is one way that the military influences politics or participates in political decision-making?
