• Describe an example of "glocalization" (global products being adapted to local markets) or transnationalism (identifying with one's culture of origin while also adopting elements of the culture where one lives) that you have experienced or observed, musical or otherwise.
• What do you think Victor Jara might mean when he sings in "Manifesto" that his guitar is "not for the rich" but that his "song is the ladder / we are building to reach the stars"?
• Some have complained that few artists are writing protest songs today. Do you agree with that assessment? Is there a musician that you listen to whose songs you would consider protest music?
• If you were to write a protest song yourself, what genre would you choose? Include a short explanation of why you would choose that genre.
