Many white Americans today feel that racial and ethnic discrimination is a thing of the past and needs no further discussion. See what you think after exploring this topic in this lab. Answer the following questions.
1. Go to: Article -Society : Law, immigration, housing, the wealth gap, census, racial classification and more.. Click on the second item; A Long History of Racial Preference - for Whites by Larry Adelman. What evidence does he present to support his contention that," racial preferences have a long, institutional history" in the US?
2. Close Adelson's essay and click on the interview with Sociologist Nancy DiTomaso to learn the results of her study of how US whites feel about race and issues such as Affirmative Action. Summarize the findings she discusses in this interview.
3. Go to article : What is Race ? : Is Race for Real ? and click on the Quick Facts about Race and read all 10 facts then discuss at least two of the facts then do the same with Human Diversity.
4. Two Faced Racism-- Describe the focus of this research presented on page 300 of your textbook) and identify the research method (see pages 19-21 of textbook).
5. What were the findings of this research? Do you think there is a connection between these findings and our continuing problems with racial prejudice and discrimination?
