Background
The new school year is fast approaching, and you are enthusiastic about developing lifelong learners. Last year, you noticed early on that there was an increase in children enrolled in your preschool classroom needing special help. Most of your preschoolers are dual language learners and many were considered exceptional learners and were diagnosed with disabilities including physical, learning, speech, mental or sensory impairments such as autism, neurodivergence, giftedness, anxiety, etc.
Your goal for the upcoming school year is to adopt an inclusive early learning environment that welcomes children with disabilities and their families. You have decided to create a one-pager that is designed to inform your parents, families, colleagues, and your local school community of your plan to support diversity, inclusion, and belonging in your early learning environment to ensure all children feel emotionally and physically safe.
Directions:
You will create a one-page handout sharing your inclusive learning environment. Your goal is to create a one-page handout as a resource for families that includes your contact information, a summary of your expertise in supporting exceptional learners, and a few key points. This document should be clear enough that someone with no prior knowledge of the topic can understand your main points.
Your one-page handout will address the following:
Introduction (your name, name of your ECE program/classroom, location, hours, contact information, expertise/experience, etc.)

Many children with special needs have challenges with independent learning. Briefly explain your approach to specialized instruction and scaffolding through accommodations and/or modifications.
Many disabilities affect young children's attention or emotional self-regulation causing them to become stressed-out and overwhelmed. Briefly describe your plan to help them cope with stress, including an example of a stress-relieving activity.
Briefly describe your plan to establish meaningful relationships with parents and families with preschoolers who have special needs.
Your assignment will include:
