Problem: Facts sbout the Disorder
Include all that are relevant: usual age of onset of the disorder, relation to population (gender, ethnic group, age, etc.), prevalence statistics, etc. Try to use Canadian content if at all possible.
1. Known or suspected causes of the disorder. How the disorder is diagnosed? Refer to the DSM V criteria.
2. How would a Psychologist from the Biological Perspective, Cognitive Perspective, Humanistic Perspective or Learning Perspective explain why the person might be struggling with the disorder?
3. What are the "signs and symptoms" that others should look for that would indicate this person has the disorder you have chosen?
4. What areas of the individuals' physical, mental/emotional, cognitive, social and spiritual developmental domains does the disorder impact? (be specific)
5. How might this disorder affect the person's behavior in the short term and in the long term?
6. Develop or Present a Case example to: 1) Illustrate the disorder. The case should highlight the relevance and/or application of the information above to police work or CYW work
7. A brief description of the hypothetical (or real) situation including the person with the disorder, setting and description of the situation. Then, make sure to cite your case example source/reference.
8. How might the person's disorder change how others should approach the person and/or how the person might respond in that situation?
9. Importance of knowledge of the disorder - Why is it important for a police officer or a CYW to have knowledge about this disorder?
10. Possible treatments: Don't just list treatments. They must be explained. If you name medications, say what they are and what are the possible benefits or risks to taking the medications? If you name a type of therapy, explain what it is. What is the success rate of the treatments?
