This systematic review and meta-analysis demonstrate overall that interventions implemented by nurses have the potential to reduce MAEs compared to usual care. However, subgroup analysis identified that workflow smart technologies had superiority when considering the effectiveness of those interventions versus usual care. It is important to have improved commitment from nurses to adopt evidence-based interventions for the safe administration of medications in clinical practice, with continuous monitoring and evaluation of their effectiveness as key for ensuring patient safety. In addition, there is also a need to have proper randomized controlled trials involving a bundle of interventions rather than a single intervention to provide robust evidence of the effectiveness of interventions implemented by nurses.
