Congratulations! You've been offered a job outside of your native country due to your outstanding performance and your ability to lead teams. The location of the job (you will determine the location) is in a country that is fundamentally different for you. (For example, in my case, I'm originally from San Juan, Puerto Rico and cultures that would be fundamentally different for me could include China, Japan, Egypt. I say this because there are pronounced differences in traditions, norms, food, power distance, etc). Cultures that would not be that different for me include Spain and the United States because Puerto Rico has both cultures imbeded as part of its heritage. We were a Spanish colony before becoming a US territory, and the traditions, food, work norms are very familiar to me.

You will assume that your job offer includes a 30% pay increase. You will lead a team of 15 employees, which is something that is appealing to you. However, you wonder if you will adapt to this culture. First, you will have to create a document containing your thoughtful list of pro's and cons for taking this job in this particular country based on the cultural differences that you outline from your research of this culture. Second, a list of potential positive and negative long-term implications for your career and life. Third, a list of key cultural negotiating factors that are critical to you. This could include things like your religious observances or anything that is important to you but not the norm in that culture. You have to indicate why this matters to you and how you plan to approach it.
