Problem

In the lecture we discussed the wet and steamy technologies of hydroelectricity and geothermal. Both of these technologies can provide consistent and reliable sources of clean renewable energy. Yet, both of these renewable sources of energy have some limitations in siting and scalability.

You were just elected Governor of California. The goal of the state is to transition California to 100% clean renewable energy by 2050. The state already has a lot of solar and wind farms throughout and they performing well. You have been informed by your advisors and technology experts that you should diversify California's renewable energy portfolio. You have the budget to build one renewable energy project and your choices are to use hydroelectric or geothermal.

1) As Governor of California do you chose hydroelectric or geothermal? Explain your answer and consider:

a) Why do you think the hydroelectric or geothermal technology is appropriate for California?

b) What are the environmental impacts, social issues, and economic needs of your constituents. Remember you want to make appropriate choices that will keep you in office.
