What are the characteristics of the Universal Model of Leadership?
How do your leadership characteristics compare to those in the model?

While reading through chapter 4, the characteristics of the Universe Model are: Egocentric, Reactive, Integral, and Unitive. These characteristics of the Universe Model maps the stages of development that we grow into. The Leadership Circle correlates with the Universal Model, but it does not measure the development growth. "It is important to note that the LCP does not measure Stages of Development since that is a more complex undertaking than can be accomplished in a 360? assessment." (Anderson & Adams, 2019, Chapter 4). The stages that we all go through helps molds us from what we use to know, to what we need to survive as an adult. "The structure of our identity determines how we show up as a leader, how we deploy ourselves into circumstances." (Anderson & Adams, 2019, Chapter 4). As our identity changes, so does our leadership style.

The five levels of the Universal Model of leadership is based on one a self centered thought process of thinking eventually maturing into a system that must depend on others to get issues resolved (Adams & Anderson 2016). A leader at the reactive level usually cares about the business and the employees, and the short term goals as well as long term have to be accomplished. The Creativity level of leadership is a person that is innovative and opens up to other ideas so that groups are involved. Then the next level is integral leadership meaning that the person can handle complicated issues and fond resolution with being fair.The last level is Unitive being the highest level of understanding what is takes to lead others and be highly effective. Apparently if you are at this level it might be said that a person can lead at a global level (Adams & Anderson 2016).According to Adams & Anderson (2016), the universal leadership model is all about evolving and getting more mature as complexity is increased.
