Healthcare organizations are faced with many challenges to compete with other healthcareorganizations. Healthcare systems often expand by purchasing and creating new facilities orm erg ing with other healthcare systems. Expansion can be successful but with many challenges.
SMAC will show the failures, challenges, and success of healthcare system expansion using the health care system Vanderbilt University Medical Center.

The topics that I wish to discuss are decision-making, organizational development, orga nizationstructure, innovation, change, external environments, organization style, and conflict.
Anticipated Managerial Abilities to be Developed
Adaptability: Recognizing how Vanderbilt University Medical Center ada pted to the challenges andexternal factors will assist me in developing this managerial ability.
Planning: I plan to develop this managerial ability by determining the problem in this research studyand creating an effective plan to provide solutions. This will include an analysi s of external factorsand contingency factors and how those factors influence organizational structure.

I plan to conduct my research by gathering i nformation from resources such as textbooks and articles and data research. I plan to evaluate the importance of structure and identify the level ofpreparedness needed to expand organizations.
