For instance, in 1971, in response to the idea that we could send 18-year old Americans off to war in Vietnam, Congress proposed, and the states ratified, the 26th Amendment. This amendment lowered the voting age from 21 years of age to 18 years of age The Founding Fathers made it very difficult to amend the United States Constitution, but it can be done.
