Gender and Baseball Letter
We learned about the gender inequality that exists in baseball. We learned about some women who have broken the barrier to play baseball and discussed what the future for women might be in baseball. Apply the material you learned about how societal views has impacted women in baseball to the following scenario.
Imagine the following scenario: Joy, a 12-year-old girl from Philadelphia, is considering joining the boy's little league team at the local Boys and Girls Club. Joy loves baseball and has played baseball for years with her two brothers. She really wants to try and play on the little league team this year.
Write Joy a 2-3 page letter on why you feel she should or should not join the boys little league team. In this letter, you can provide encouragement, personal stories, obstacles she might face, reasons why you think she should join or not join the team, and/or provide Joy with examples you learned about in the readings or found online about girls and women playing little league, college, or professional baseball.
It is required that you cite something from this week's assigned reading at least one time. You can research other outside sources in addition if you would like.
