Some animals cells may have one to a few small fluid filled vacuoles.. Plants cells in general possess one or a few large vacuoles. Vacuoles of animals cells arise from golgi complex and are hence a part of the cytoplasmic endomembrane system . Obviously, these are bound by the same trilaminar units membrane these serve for storage and transport of dissolved nutritive secretory excretoty substances . and for the maintenance of an intracellular turgor pressure some freshwater animals cells possess one two or a few contractile vacuoles for osmoregulation such a vacuole is bound by a simple and delicate condensation membrane different from typical unit membrane.
