Respond to my classmate - My recommendation would be to utilize the Asset Based Community Development (ABCD) approach to guide our efforts to organize the FJC. I believe this is the best approach for bringing multiple agencies together to serve the needs of our community through the FJC. The formation of the FJC will pool collective resources and use them to positively impact our chosen population (Mathie et al., 2017; University of Kentucky College of Social Work, n.d.). The plan will be to map out our current assets based on those already committed to the FJC (UKCSW, n.d.). Once current assets are evaluated and mobilized, we can identify an gaps in resources. Partnerships with organizations outside the FJC may be be required to facilitate acquiring additional assets and/or resources to fill the identified gaps (Mathie et al., 2017). Our combined strengths will create an organization that is stronger than its individual components due to the "power with" concept (Mathie et al., 2017). Recruiting other voices will likely require buy-in. Demonstrating our organizations' "power with" strengths to other prospective partners will help us create this buy-in. The individual partners within the FJC will feel empowered and continue to work toward sustained development (UKCSW, n.d.). The ABCD framework will enable continued growth and development by repeating this pattern of asset mapping, community engagement, asset mobilization, and sustainable development (UKCSW, n.d.).
