A major US -based supermarket chain is planning to acquire and operate a major locally based supermarket chain in an EU country (your choice). Identify the cross-cultural and other people -related issues it is likely to encounter and describe the HRM strategies it may need to adopt to ensure a smooth takeover and effective ongoing operation.
Additional Information on Group Presentation Requirements
1. Presentations should use ppt. slides or similar. Two printed copies of the presentation slides must be provided to the lecturer on the day of presentation. The first slide must contain the full names of all the presenters and their student IDs. Printed slides must be no more than 2 per page.
2. You may draw on information from slides or articles referred to in lectures and from the textbooks. You may also draw on information from other academic and business sources. A minimum of 5 academic references must be used. Where possible cite the relevant references at the bottom of the slides to which they relate. A reference list of all sources used must be provided on the penultimate slide.
3. You should refer to real world examples; when doing so cite the sources of information used e.g. company web site. You do not need to have academic references that refer specifically to the organization(s) you are using as examples.
4. Presentations will require an explanation of the importance of, and the implications of, the topic for IER/IHRM and a clearly developed argument supported by evidence from academic and other sources. (If you are unsure what this means ask the convenor or course instructor.)
5. Plan for a 15 minute presentation + 5 minutes for class participation. Each presenter should present for an approximately equal amount of time. As well as inviting questions from the audience you are responsible for leading the class discussion. To stimulate discussion put some questions up on the last slides that refer specifically to important issues you have covered in your presentation. Do not ask trivial or irrelevant questions. You can also ask questions during the presentation if you wish.
