Assignment Problem: What would be the best reply to this post?
While conducting an initial interview I will most likely use an unstructured interview strategy. This strategy is regarded in our textbook as the most widely used strategy by counselors and psychologists (Sheperis, et al., 2019). This will allow me to ask the questions that I feel will most effectively answer all that is needed to complete the MSE. I plan to begin by gathering basic demographic information such as name and age and the like. If those points lead to the possibility of further questions that would be helpful I would ask them that. I would use immediacy, which is noticing changes in the interviewee's demeanor or behavior and mentioning them in the moment (Young, 2021). For example, if the interviewer was to make an uncomfortable face when discussing their work or family, it would be important to, in than moment, address the topic further.
While my interview will be unstructured, however, I am unpracticed and will plan to have a list of topic or questions that I will need to be use to cover so that I can acquire all of the necessary information. Following demographic information, I will ask about family and living situation, I will ask about what they do in their spare time and what they believe motivates them as well as what are their values. I will ask about their strengths and perceived deficiencies because those answers would lead to further discussion. I will ask about medical and psychological history and follow up with asking about specific psychological symptoms. After all of this, I should have all of the information I need to complete the MSE.
