Throughout history, women have typically been less represented than men with regard to political and workforce roles. Women had fewer legal rights, lower social status, and were expected to only carry on the traditional role of wife and mother. During the industrial age, women's rights movements surfaced in an attempt to offer women the choice to become a more equal part of the workforce and politics.
