This week you will be writing an individual learning

This week you will be writing an individual learning assignment where you calculate central tendency, This Chapter gives you everything you need. I prefer to use Excel. We'll use this thread to show examples of calculating mean, median, mode and standard deviation.

Example: The assembly line is measured by how many shoes can be made per hour. Shoes R Us measured assembly for 10 hours and counted the number of shoes per hour. I enter the data in Excel. Just Open and Type. Then I select descriptive statistics and run it. Here is a photo of the 4 steps:

Click summary statistics.

Here is what the output looks like:

No math required Our mean is 19.4 shoes per hour. The standard deviation of 4.88 pairs of shoes per hour shows we are not consistent within the 10 hours we measured. We're capable of 25 pairs per hour (Maximum) and yet we had an hour that we only produced 8. We need to work on reducing the variation from hour to hour.

Okay, you're turn. If you do not have the Data Analysis loaded on your Data tab in Excel, go to File, Options, Add-inns and load up. The book shows how to calculate these manually but I don't believe that is a good use of your time.
