Organization design was relatively static for much of the 20th century. The military model of vertical structure, functional/bureaucratic organization predominated for much of the century. What brought about changes in organization design from vertical to horizontal, to hybrid, to teams including self-managed, project teams etc. What are the strengths and weaknesses of each?
