The greeks have been fighting for the return of the marbles

ACTIVITY:

The conservers between the British and Greek governments over the rights of the Parthenon marbles have been going on for about 200 years now ever since they were taken by Lord Elgin between 1801-1805 from Greece to the British museum. From that day both sides believe to have the rights of the Parthenonmarbles and they still reside with the British at their museum.

I believe that the marbles should be returned to the Greeks were they were taken from because first of all the Greeks do have a museum that can hold the marbles and a group of people to look over them and take care of the marble. The museum is called Acropolis Museum which opened in 2007. Despite what the British say about the Greeks not having a museum or care over the marbles. My second reason is that the documents that lord Elgin had received for owner ship of the marbles were giving to him by the sultan at the time who was a foreign ruler over Greece which I don't believe had rights to give lord Elgin the power to take the marbles from the Greeks. I also believe that the marbles should be with the Greeks in Greece because the marbles are a symbol of Greece culture heritage and they should be returned to their original home where the Greeks can show them to the world from their own museum. The Greeks have been fighting for the return of the marbles for over 200 years and now I believe that it should be returned to them as soon as possible.
