The concepts of contemporary western business philosophies

Divine Command Theory has been and continues to be highly controversial. It has been criticized by numerous philosophers, including Plato, Kai Nielsen, and J. L. Mackie. The theory also has many defenders, both classic and contemporary, such as Thomas Aquinas, Robert Adams, and Philip Quinn. The question of the relationship between religion and business ethics is of interest to business philosophers and practitioners alike. In a globalized world today the need to be synergistic seem to play a primary role over a ‘colonialist’ imposing methodology of doing business of the past. Therefore the need to be adaptive to hosts values is seen critical in business sustainability. With the above contention, critically discuss:

1. The concept of divine command theory within the context of business from the perspectives of Hinduism, Buddhism, Judaism, Christianity and Islam.

2. How these religions shaped business philosophy in the respective home business practices.

3. The concepts of contemporary western business philosophies within the context of Utilitarianism, Kantianism, Natural Rights Theory.

4. How these contemporary western philosophies shaped the business practices in their respective homes.

5. Were there any cross reference or adaptation or influence between these different philosophies (divine command theory Vs Utilitarianism, Kantianism, Natural Rights Theory).

6. Is there a need to synergize Divine Command theory with contemporary business philosophy and practices? Why?

7. Recommend how should global corporation conduct itself in cross border relationship to maintain sustainability, given that ethical issues have become critical flashpoints?
