Technological advancements in interpretation and reporting

Problem: The utilization of technological advancements in the interpretation and reporting of results should be seen as a supplementary tool for counselors, as the exercise of professional judgmentremains paramount. While computer aid might be beneficial, it is important to acknowledge the potential for erroneous outcomes. According to Groth-Marnat and Wright (2016), it is advised that practitioners exercise caution when considering computer-based narrative statements. Instead of accepting them unquestioningly, practitioners should try to verify that these statements are supported by empirical research and are appropriately situated within the client's distinctive history and circumstances (p.74). This implies that following the provision of findings, the counselor must engage in more research and exercise their professional discretion in relation to the client. Using computer-administered versions of some assessments can lead to less accurate results (Kaplan, & Saccuzzo, 2012). For instance, if a client has any type of test anxiety and they are given an assessment to take on a computer, it could trigger their anxiety or depression symptoms and provide the counselor with inaccurate results (Kaplan, & Saccuzzo, 2012). The assessment of each client should encompass a comprehensive evaluation, taking into consideration many factors such as physical observations, prior history, and traumatic events, among others.
