Assignment: Network Design Team Project

OVERVIEW

The point of this exercise is to help students apply CCNA and other Networking skills to a practical, real-world case study. It is an exercise in time management, original research, delegation, and accountability. This document is a rudimentary Request For Proposal (RFP). As with most RFPs, this one has gaps and holes. You are expected to discover these shortfalls and act in a timely manner to mitigate them. This assignment requires your best efforts.

It is your responsibility to ASK QUESTIONS!

Request ForProposal

Your company, DeVry Communications, Inc. is competitively bidding ona project to network three buildings for a new college campus located in Phoenix, AZ. These buildings are under construction, or are gutted and are being renovated. They do not have a Local Area Network framework installed. The project consists of designing and installing a LAN/CANin and between Smith Hall, Harris Hall, and Nash Residence:

You are to incorporate the following considerations and criteria into your proposal:

• Smith Hall is an administrative (office) building,

o It has 400 users across two floors,
o It is 750 (450 LOS) meters from Harris Hall.

• Harris Hall is anadministration and classroom building,

o It has 300 users acrossthree floors,
o It has a data center where the MDF will reside,
o It is the MDF/POP of the proposed LAN/CAN.

• Nash Residenceis student housing,

o It will have375 occupantsacross three floors,
o It is 450(325 LOS) meters from Harris Hall.

At a minimum, provide the following services and resources on the network (others may be needed):

o Adequate capacity to accommodate 20% population growth over the next three years,
o Provide internet access,
o Provide networksecurity,
o Full network connectivity (network design using layer 2 and layer 3),
o High-speed wireless access for corporate and public networks.

SPECIFIC DELIVERABLES - Points/Week Due

Submit an IP Scheme and identify VLANs that will be used to segment the network.

Submit a set of Topologydiagrams- using Visio - representing all physical and logical elements. A minimum of four diagrams are expected - Campus, Smith, Harris, and Nash.

Submit a proof-of-conceptPrototype Modelusing Packet Tracerto demonstrate the LAN topology.

Team Presentation*(using PowerPoint): Includes an oral defense of your IP/VLAN scheme, Topology diagrams, and Prototype Model.

* An oral presentation and demonstration (of your working PT simulation) is required. All members of the team need to participate equally. This presentation will be graded on quality of content as well as on professionalism in its delivery. Practice is recommended. ALL unresolved questions on expectations or technologies or design considerations are the team's responsibility to resolve with the instructor PRIOR to the presentation. Serious Errors or Omissions will cost points.

Format your assignment according to the following formatting requirements:
