Subcultures can often be mislabeled or misconstrued

Essay: Perception

Assignment: Subcultures can often be mislabeled or misconstrued. The Internet and music oriented channels such as MTV may showcase a subculture that can lead to a narrowed view of the people within the subgroup. Construct an argument that examines how a subculture is perceived or viewed by mainstream media and culture. You may address any stereotypes or any negative perceptions in order to more fully understand the complexities of the subculture. Ask yourself how they should be perceived and emphasize any reasons why they are seen this way. Consider whether or not if the mainstream image of them is accurate or inaccurate. Does this subculture have beliefs and practices that differ from the larger culture? If so, why?
