Studying to be a health and physical education

Philosophy Paper:

General Requirements:

This paper is conceptual/philosophical paper on your area of study.  For example, if you are studying to be a Health and Physical Education teacher, your paper will focus on the concepts of Health and Physical Education. In essence, if someone were to ask you what you do, or to explain the difference in Health and Physical Education, could you do this? If your major is Recreational Therapy, you will need to provide the philosophy and historical references regarding the development of this field.  A request to complete a paper on COACHING will be denied as we do not have a Coaching Major.

In essence, this paper is designed to provide you with a detailed study into the history, philosophies, and theories that have shaped the profession.  For example, if you are an exercise science major and intend to study physical therapy, you may complete your paper on the physical therapy profession.  You should not include job descriptions, salaries, etc., as this is a historical and philosophical review of the profession.

Include a title page and a conclusion. Papers will be graded for content, organization, grammar and spelling.  A grading rubric is posted on Moodle. Save your paper as one complete rich text format or word document and submit through Moodle by the due date on the course calendar.

Papers should be written in APA style and include a minimum of twenty (20) educational references. The paper should be between 10 and 12 pages in length.  Less than 10 pages or more than 12 pages will result in a significant loss of points on this paper.  The paper should include an introduction, body and conclusion; papers should include a cover page and reference page. Any statement that is not your original thought needs to have the source cited in the text of the paper and on the reference page. Plagiarism will result in a failing grade for the course. Plagiarizing is when you present the words and ideas of another person as your own. Any information you use in your papers should give credit to the source of the information regardless if the information came from the web, your text book, or any other source. Deductions will be made from your paper’s final grade for nonacademic references and any distractions: missing cover sheet or page numbers, poor sentence structure, poor organization, not following APA style, poor word choice, paragraph construction, etc. Late papers will not be accepted.

Please remember:

1. An APA style cover page.

2. An introduction of the topic presented in the research.

3. An outline of the research presented using the headers used in the research: methods, subjects (scope of the study)—the who, what, when, where, and why.

4. A discussion and conclusion(s) from the point of view of the research reviewed.

5. A reference page citing the journal article reviewed; see the APA manual for proper formatting.

6. Appendixes, tables, and figures presented in the article can be included in the body of your paper.
