Assignment Task:
Part 1: Identify a recent news item (cite to source) that you believe represents a public health issue. Provide two principles covered in modules 2 and/or 3 that support your position. (Module 1 talks about the US Constitution, and the American Legal system, and Module two talks about Public health law and Healthcare and the Law).
Part 2: As a legislator for your state, you have become very concerned about gun violence in the population, and you are worried about the related long-range consequences for our society as a whole. In particular, you have become concerned about the growing number of mass shootings including those that have recently occurred at large concert venues as well as in our nation's schools.
Should the problem of gun violence be classified as a public health issue and if so, why? If not, why not?
If gun violence should be classified as a public health issues, name one strategy that you will push through legislation?
Are there civil liberties that may be compromised in light of the above-referenced strategy and if so, are they justified
