Should employers able to discipline opt terminate employees

Problem

Most individuals use or participate in some form of social media. Many individuals post information and pictures on social media sites that maybe available for public review. Even with privacy settings information may be distributed to a number of individuals. Sites often will identify the employer of a site user. Employers may not agree with the employees posts or opinions and feel that they negatively affect the employer's business activities. As such many employers as a matter of security will monitor their employee social media activities and take disciplinary action based on what they believe are inappropriate posts.

Do you believe that an employer should have the right to monitor an employee's social media posts if they are public? Should an employer have the right to ask an employee to reveal posts that are private and only available to a limited group? Should employers be able to discipline opt terminate employees for inappropriate posts. What is your opinion on these issues?
