Role of inspection
Inspection plays an important role in quality management. The products should be inspected at the end of the process to make sure that they meet the specification. The products should be checked before they are delivered to the customer. The end-of-process inspection is the main focus in the traditional approach to quality. The results of the inspection allow the delivery of the product or the rework on it or the removal of defective items from it. The role of inspection today is broad and spans throughout the process. Small and frequent inspections make sure that the process is performing as planned so that the result will have lesser nonconforming products at the end of the process. The in-process inspection might reveal the deficiencies which can be corrected before they can cause costly scrap and rework.
Measuring the physical characteristics of the products, examining the products for completeness and testing the products for performance are the kinds of activities that can be included in inspections.
