Reviewing literature on school discipline and suspension

Problem:

Preparation before engaging with the client before engaging with Gabela, I reviewed the referral documentation received from the school, which detailed the allegations of serious misconduct including physical assault on educators, substance abuse, gang-related activities, and bullying. I conducted background research by reviewing literature on school discipline and suspension procedures under the South African Schools Act 84 of 1996, which emphasizes that a learner may only be suspended after a fair hearing and as a precautionary measure pending a disciplinary inquiry (South African Schools Act 84 of 1996). I also familiarized myself with the principles of strength-based and person-centered approaches to ensure the session would be conducted in a manner that promotes the client's self-determination, dignity, and worth (Rogers, 1987). I researched the specific services offered by the Department of Social Development for young adults to ensure that I could provide the client with accurate and practical information about where to seek help. I also prepared myself emotionally to engage with a young person who may be defensive, angry, or resistant, given the seriousness of the allegations against him and the likelihood that he may feel blamed and misunderstood. I reminded myself of the ethical principles of social work, particularly the values of service, social justice, dignity and worth of the person & the importance of integrity. Need Assignment Help?
