Genetically modified foods are produced by recombining DNA of two different organisms, with the goal of developing a new organism (GMO) with more desirable qualities. The benefits and risks of any particular GM crop depend on the interactions of its ecological functions and natural history with the agro ecosystem, and ecosystems system which it is embedded. Genetically modified crops have many potential advantages in terms of raising agricultural productivity, which reducing the need for environmentally harmful pesticides.

The genetic engineering process involves removing a desired gene or genes from one organism (plant, bacteria or virus) and placing them into the DNA of another in order to introduce new traits to the second organism (plant). This helps to make genetically modified crops more resistant to certain herbicides, pests, diseases, extreme weather conditions, taste better, and last longer on the shelf and help to improve their nutritional content.

Advantages and disadvantages of GM', genetic modifications do more than add pest resistance or weather resistance to GMO crops, the nutritional content of the crops can be altered as well, providing a denser nutritional profile, and generations before were not able to enjoy, and people in the future can have the same nutrition, from lower levels of food consumption.
